研究兴趣：东西交通与文化交流；中亚与伊朗的历史、考古与艺术；帝国管理；中西亚印章

田野考古与博物馆研究：足迹遍布中东、中亚和地中海地区的众多考古遗址，曾在埃及、伊朗、以色列、俄罗斯、保加利亚、哈萨克斯坦、吉尔吉斯斯坦、塔吉克斯坦、土库曼斯坦、乌兹别克斯坦、阿富汗等国家从事考古和博物馆藏品研究，并在纽约大都会、费城宾夕法尼亚大学、圣彼得堡艾米塔什等西方博物馆工作或从事第一手研究。自2009年以来一直主持克泽尔·台培考古发掘工作（前乌兹别克-美国联合考古研究项目，现中乌国际合作项目），该遗址位于乌兹别克斯坦南部的苏尔汗河谷（中国史书所记载的大夏地区），建于古波斯帝国时期，毁于希腊化早期。该项目（Kyzyltepa Project）为中亚地区的第一个由中国人主持的考古研究项目。
